We are in the water ... Wednesday 28th November 2007.
This site outlines the design and construction of the boat above at my fathers home at Burpengary Queensland in Australia. We expected this to be a five year project when we started construction in late 1999, it is now mid 2007. We successfully turned the hull in December 2004. The boat is actually starting to feel like a boat now being right side up. The next few months should see some good progress. We have installed the lead keel, the engine, all of the fuel, water & waste tanks, (all done as of December 2005) The forward accommodations are all fabricated & are awaiting painting as of April 2006. We are making a start on the main saloon which should be allot easier to fabricate as everything is reasonably square, with no hull to worry about scribing bulkheads into. We are aiming at a completion date of November or December this year and hopefully we'll achieve it. This is our first attempt (my father & I) & last...at building any sort of boat and at the moment we are happy with our progress to this point. (I am building a small sail boat now, but I think that will be it for me) We have been building for about a 6 years now, with about six months prior to that building the shed, deciding on a design (we commissioned a local Naval Architect to design our boat) & sourcing suppliers for the initial part of the construction. The links on the left provide you with some detailed information about the boat, construction method, power plant, the designer & how we are progressing. I have made this page because when we originally were looking into the project there was not a lot of information about boat building of this nature & what there was, was mainly concerned with yachts. I hope that this page can be of help or interest to you. I will be updating this page on a monthly basis hopefully.
